My turnaround so far with Permuted has varied greatly, and I've never gone the route of getting an agent and having him/her shop it to a major publisher. I'm assuming we're talking about a year or so.
Congratulations on finishing your manuscript. I'm sure you already have a few agents in mind, but if you don't, you might want to check out Publishers Marketplace. It's an excellent venue for researching agents, etc. . . .
Location: Cornwall on Hudson, New York, United States
I am a professor of religious studies, and the author of several books on the Bible and theology. I grew up in New York, Virginia, and New Mexico. I attended St. John's College, Annapolis, MD (BA, 1988), Harvard Divinity School (MTS, 1990), and the University of Notre Dame (PhD, 1995). I live in upstate New York with my wife and two wonderful kids.
Starting in 2006, I had one of those strange midlife things, and turned my analysis towards horror films and literature. I have written
Gospel of the Living Dead: George Romero's Visions of Hell on Earth (Baylor, 2006) - WINNER, 2006 Bram Stoker Award;
Dying to Live: A Novel of Life among the Undead (Permuted Press, 2007);
Orpheus and the Pearl(Magus Press, 2008); and
Dying to Live: Life Sentence(Permuted Press, 2008).

Congratulations! Looking forward to reading it.
How long does it take to get something like this published anyway?

So, will you go with Permuted again or off to a agent?
I will be sending it to an agent, and will see what will come of that.
Good luck. I'm sure it'll be a great success.
We begin the same quest together. I wish you much luck and infinite patience.

Thanks for all the good wishes.
I did spend some time with Publishers Marketplace, and also asked for some more senior colleagues for recommendations.
Way to go, Doc! I will have comments for you soon, and wishing you all kinds of luck with the agent-quest!
