Back from Fencon - to the Slush!
Just got back from Fencon. Shared a table with the lovely Gabrielle Faust. Lee Thomas stopped by several times and chatted. I was on a couple panels that were pretty nicely attended, though the one on apocalypses took the whole topic a little TOO literally (like they really thought that any of these things were really going to happen - I *think* they made an exception for zombies, but maybe not).

I think it's kind of cool that they would discuss it seriously just to mix things up, but I'm sure it could lead to a Bill Shatner/SNL sketch moment.

LOL! We live in interesting times I guess.
I have an odd question. when is a novel apocalyptic and when is it merely eschatological? The difference, as I understand it, would be that both destroy the world, but the apocalyptic novel also attempts to reveal hidden truths.
I'm racking my brain trying to think of examples of both and coming up dry. Is there even usch a thing as a modern eschatological novel?
Excellent question, but I think we use the term "apocalyptic" very loosely now, without any implication of its religious dimension (especially since we say "post-apocalyptic" - which really shouldn't happen in the Judeo-Christian setup of an apocalypse).

The way Gabrielle kept the money for the books she sold when I stepped away from the table was awesome!
